Research grade vs industrial grade: a Hamilton buyer's guide
Hamilton knows industrial chemical supply better than any Canadian city, and research-grade peptides play by different rules. What grade actually specifies, and what documentation to demand.

Hamilton knows industrial chemistry better than any city in Canada, which makes it the right place to explain what separates research-grade material from everything else. Grade is a specification, not a quality tier. It describes what a material is measured against and what documentation comes with it.
For research-grade peptides, the batch report is the specification. That single fact settles most supplier comparisons.

Industrial vs research, concretely
Industrial or technical grade is specified for process performance. Impurity tolerances can be wide, because the question is whether the material works in the process. Documentation is a spec sheet for the product.
Research grade is specified for analytical work, where impurities are variables in their own right. The controlling document is a per-batch analysis of what is actually present.
The consequence: for industrial material the product page is the specification. For research material the batch report is, and two vials of the same peptide from different runs carry different reports.
What a research-grade specification requires
| Requirement | Why it exists |
|---|---|
| Per-batch analysis | Purity varies between runs; a product-level figure is an average |
| HPLC purity | Establishes what fraction is a single species |
| Mass-spec identity | Confirms that species is the peptide on the label |
| Named lab and test date | Makes the analysis attributable and current |
| Batch number matching the vial | Ties the document to the material |
Drop the last row and the rest is decoration. An analysis you cannot tie to your vial is an analysis of someone else's. How to read a peptide lab report goes through a real one.
Check the vial before you use it
Every vial we ship carries its own QR code. Scanning it opens the third-party lab report for the exact batch that vial was filled from: HPLC purity, mass-spec identity, appearance, the testing lab and the date. Scan a sample at /track before you order anything.
Four things to confirm on arrival:
- The batch number on the label matches the report the code opens.
- The seal and stopper are intact.
- The lyophilized cake is dry and whole, not collapsed, shrunken or tacky.
- The colour matches what the report describes.
A vial that fails any of those is replaced. Contact support within 7 days of delivery.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between research grade and industrial grade?+
Grade describes what a material is measured against and what documentation follows it. Industrial chemicals are specified for process performance and can carry wide impurity tolerances. Research grade is specified for analytical work, with per-batch testing establishing purity and confirming identity.
What documentation should research-grade material carry?+
A third-party report for the specific production batch, naming the lab and test date, reporting HPLC purity and a mass-spec identity confirmation against the expected molecular mass for that peptide.
Why do two vials of the same peptide have different reports?+
Because they came from different production runs. Purity varies between batches, so a report describes the run it was drawn from. A single product-level figure is an average, not a measurement of your vial.
Do you ship to Burlington, Dundas and Stoney Creek?+
Yes, free, along with every address in the Hamilton area and across Ontario.
