How long can retatrutide stay out of the fridge?
Sealed, dry retatrutide is fine at room temperature in transit and briefly on the bench. Mixed retatrutide belongs in the fridge. Why, and which water to use.
Published October 1, 2026
Sealed, lyophilized retatrutide can stay out of the fridge for as long as shipping takes and for short stretches on the bench. Reconstituted retatrutide can't: it belongs in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and should only come out while you are working with the vial. Water makes the difference. Freeze-dried powder has almost nothing to react with, while a solution starts to degrade and gives microbes somewhere to grow.

Retatrutide out of the fridge: dry vs reconstituted
| State | Room temperature | Fridge (2 to 8°C) | Freezer (about -20°C) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lyophilized, sealed | Fine in transit and briefly on the bench | A few weeks | Months to a year or more |
| Reconstituted | Only while you work with it | Weeks, not months | Only as single-use aliquots |
These are the general rules for lyophilized peptides, and retatrutide follows them. Tirzepatide and semaglutide do too, since all three ship freeze-dried. How to store research peptides explains the reasoning behind each cell. Keep the vial dry and out of light, because moisture and light do more damage than a few degrees of warmth.
Does a warm retatrutide parcel mean the vial is damaged?
No. Retatrutide ships freeze-dried and without a cold pack, so a parcel that sat in a warm truck is normal. Check the paperwork, not the temperature. Scan the QR code on the vial and confirm the report shows an observed mass near 4731.32 g/mol, HPLC purity at 99% or higher, and a batch number that matches the vial.
A vial that arrives very cold, or comes straight out of the freezer, needs the opposite care. Let it reach room temperature sealed before you open it. Opening a cold vial in a warm room condenses moisture onto powder that was freeze-dried to remove it.
After that, store it: the fridge for weeks, a freezer at -20°C for months. The retatrutide handling guide has the concentration table for each vial size.
Keeping reconstituted retatrutide cold
Once water goes in, the clock starts.
- Keep the vial at 2 to 8°C on a shelf, not in the door, where the temperature swings.
- Take it out only while you work with it, then put it back.
- Plan to use a reconstituted vial within a few weeks.
- If it has to last longer, split it into single-use aliquots before freezing so you only ever thaw what you need.
A clean solution is clear. If you see cloudiness or floating particles, check the material against the vial's lab report.
Which bacteriostatic water to use for retatrutide
Retatrutide has no special requirement. Use standard bacteriostatic water, which is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a preservative. The benzyl alcohol slows microbial growth, and that is what lets you return to the same vial over several weeks in the fridge. Plain sterile water dissolves the peptide just as well but has no preservative, so treat a vial mixed with it as single-use. Bacteriostatic water vs sterile water compares the two in full.
The type of water does not change the concentration. That depends only on the milligrams in the vial and the volume you add. Retatrutide can be slow to dissolve, so run the water down the glass, swirl and wait rather than shaking. pepuro's bacteriostatic water comes in 3, 10 and 20 mL generic vials and a 30 mL Pfizer (Hospira) vial.
Is retatrutide a steroid?
No. Retatrutide is a peptide: a chain of 39 amino acids with a C20 fatty diacid attached, formula C221H342N46O68, molecular weight 4731.32 g/mol. Eli Lilly developed it as LY3437943, and it acts at three receptors, GLP-1, GIP and glucagon. Steroids belong to a different class of molecule. They are small lipids built on a fused carbon ring skeleton, with no amino acid chain and a fraction of retatrutide's mass.
| Retatrutide | Steroids | |
|---|---|---|
| Molecule class | Peptide | Lipid |
| Built from | 39 amino acids | Fused carbon rings |
| Molecular weight | 4731.32 g/mol | A fraction of that |
A lab report reflects this. Mass spec reads retatrutide near 4731.32 g/mol, which also separates it from tirzepatide (4813.45) and semaglutide (4113.58). Semaglutide vs tirzepatide vs retatrutide compares the three receptor by receptor. Frequently asked questions
How long can retatrutide stay out of the fridge?
+
Sealed and dry, retatrutide is stable at room temperature for shipping and short stretches on the bench. For a few weeks, keep it in the fridge, and for months, in a freezer at about -20°C. Once reconstituted, it goes back in the fridge at 2 to 8°C as soon as you finish working with it.
Does retatrutide need to be refrigerated when it arrives?
+
Not urgently. Lyophilized retatrutide ships without a cold pack, and a parcel that arrives warm is normal. Check the vial's lab report, then move the sealed vial to the fridge or freezer.
Which bacteriostatic water should be used for retatrutide?
+
Standard bacteriostatic water, which is sterile water with 0.9% benzyl alcohol. The preservative slows microbial growth, so a vial you draw from more than once stays usable for weeks in the fridge. Plain sterile water has no preservative and suits single-use preparation only.
Is retatrutide a steroid?
+
No. Retatrutide is a peptide, a 39-residue chain of amino acids with a fatty diacid attached, at 4731.32 g/mol. Steroids are small molecules built on a fused carbon ring skeleton and contain no amino acids.
Can reconstituted retatrutide be frozen?
+
Only as single-use aliquots. Repeated freeze-thaw stresses the molecule, so split the solution into portions before freezing and thaw only the portion you need.
