DSIP (delta sleep-inducing peptide) handling guide

DSIP's numbers in one place: the nine-residue sequence, mass, where the name came from, vial sizes, concentration table and what its report should show.

DSIP is a nine-amino-acid neuropeptide, sequence WAGGDASGE, and at 848.81 g/mol it is one of the lighter peptides we sell. We stock it in 5 mg and 10 mg vials.

Three of the nine residues are glycine, and there is no disulfide bond or unusual residue anywhere in the chain. On a mass-spec line that simplicity helps: one clean peak near 848.81 is what you expect.

Where the name came from

DSIP was described in 1977 by Monnier and Schoenenberger in Basel. They induced sleep in rabbits by electrically stimulating part of the thalamus, collected cerebral venous blood, and isolated a peptide that increased delta-wave (slow-wave) sleep when given to other animals. The name records that first result.

The name has aged less well than the peptide. Later sleep studies gave inconsistent results, and decades on, no dedicated receptor or precursor gene for DSIP has been firmly identified. That open question is a large part of why DSIP is still studied: in sleep research, but also in stress-hormone and neuroendocrine models.

DSIP vial sizes we sell, at four diluent volumes. Molarity uses 848.81 g/mol. Other volumes

Because DSIP is light, a milligram of it holds a lot of molecules. A 5 mg vial is about 5.89 micromoles and a 10 mg vial about 11.78. Milligram for milligram that is 1.7 times the molecules of BPC-157 and 5.8 times the molecules of TB-500, which matters if your protocol is written in molar units. The DSIP calculator has the molecular weight preset.

Handling

DSIP ships as a lyophilized powder. Add bacteriostatic water down the inside of the glass, swirl gently and never shake. Keep dry vials in the freezer long term or the fridge short term. Once reconstituted, keep the vial in the fridge and split it into aliquots rather than refreezing it. The reconstitution guide covers the full method, and how to store research peptides covers the temperatures.

Reading a DSIP lab report

A DSIP report should show:

  • an observed mass near 848.81
  • purity at 99% or higher by HPLC
  • the same batch number as the vial
  • the name of the lab that ran the test

Scan the QR code on any pepuro DSIP vial to open the report for its batch, or look the batch up by code. How to read a peptide lab report explains each line.

Related short peptides

DSIP sits in the catalog next to other short regulatory peptides studied in neuroendocrine and pineal research, including Epitalon (four residues) and Pinealon (three). The Epitalon handling guide covers the closest of them.

Every DSIP vial from pepuro ships free, from our Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver distribution centers, the same business day your e-Transfer clears, with a QR code on the vial that opens its independent, third-party lab report.

Frequently asked questions

What is DSIP?

+

Delta sleep-inducing peptide, a nine-amino-acid neuropeptide (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) with a molecular weight of 848.81 g/mol. It was isolated in 1977 and is studied in sleep and neuroendocrine research.

Where does the name come from?

+

From the experiment that found it. Swiss researchers induced sleep in rabbits by electrically stimulating the thalamus, then isolated a peptide from their cerebral venous blood that promoted delta-wave sleep in recipient animals. The name describes that first observation.

How much water do I add to a 5 mg DSIP vial?

+

1 mL gives 5 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 2.5 mg/mL, and 5 mL gives 1 mg/mL. At 848.81 g/mol a 5 mg vial holds about 5.89 micromoles.

What should a DSIP lab report show?

+

An observed mass near 848.81, purity at 99% or higher by HPLC, the batch number printed on the vial, and the name of the lab that ran it.
