Does semax need to be refrigerated?
Semax is stable as a dry powder and only needs the fridge once it is in solution. Storage, reconstitution, and what its lab report should show.
Published October 13, 2026
A vial of semax does not need the fridge while it is still the dry powder. It ships lyophilized for exactly that reason, which is why a parcel can cross the country without a cold pack and arrive chemically intact. The fridge matters once water goes in: a reconstituted vial belongs at 2 to 8°C, and from that moment it is a use-it item rather than something you store.

What semax is
Semax is a synthetic seven-residue peptide, an analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment with a proline-glycine-proline tail added to the sequence. Its sequence is MEHFPGP.
| Sequence | MEHFPGP |
| Formula | C37H51N9O10S |
| Molecular weight | 813.92 g/mol |
| CAS | 80714-61-0 |
| Vial sizes we sell | 5 mg, 10 mg |
Those numbers are what an identity check runs against. The molecular weight is the expected mass on a mass-spec result, so a report showing an observed mass at 813.9 or 814.0 has confirmed the molecule, not just the purity. Semax vs selank sets this peptide and its Russian counterpart side by side. We also stock the N-acetyl semax amidate form, which carries an acetyl group on one end and an amide on the other. We do not print a molecular weight for that analog; the identifiers stay blank until a certificate of analysis for the material we stock confirms them.
Does semax need to be refrigerated?
Not as a powder. With the water removed there is very little for the peptide to react with, and room temperature is not the problem people assume it is.
| Form | Where it lives |
|---|---|
| Lyophilized powder, long term | Freezer, around -20°C |
| Lyophilized powder, a few weeks | Fridge, or a cool dark shelf |
| Reconstituted solution | Fridge, 2 to 8°C, away from the door shelf |
Two habits matter more than the exact number of degrees. Keep the vial dark, because light is one of the few things that still reaches a dry peptide. And let a cold vial reach room temperature before you break the seal, since opening one straight from the fridge invites condensation onto powder that was dried on purpose. How to store research peptides covers the reasoning behind all three rows, and the same rules hold for other neuropeptides with entirely different numbers, such as epitalon and DSIP.
Once the vial is in solution the margin narrows. Cold, steady and dark is the goal, and the door shelf is not, because it swings every time the fridge opens. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles do more damage than a few degrees of warmth, so if a solution needs to keep longer, split it into aliquots before freezing and thaw only what you need. GHK-Cu is the extreme case in the catalog, since copper complexes are light-sensitive as well.
Reconstituting semax, and how much bacteriostatic water
Run the water down the inside wall of the vial, let it reach the powder on its own, then swirl gently. Never shake: foam means shear, and shear costs purity before the work starts. How to reconstitute a lyophilized peptide has the technique step by step.
The volume is yours to choose. Concentration is the amount of peptide divided by the volume of water, so the same vial gives a different figure depending on what you add:
| Peptide in vial | Water added | Concentration |
|---|---|---|
| 5 mg | 1 mL | 5 mg/mL |
| 5 mg | 2 mL | 2.5 mg/mL |
| 10 mg | 2 mL | 5 mg/mL |
The peptide in the vial never changes, only the concentration does. At 813.92 g/mol, a 5 mg vial is about 6.1 micromoles and a 10 mg vial about 12.3. Pick the volume that lands on a figure that is easy to measure, and use bacteriostatic water rather than plain sterile water if the vial will be opened more than once, since the preservative in it slows microbial growth.
Can semax and selank go in one vial?
Yes, and we stock it that way. The selank + semax blend is a single vial holding 10 mg of each peptide, combined before lyophilization.
A blend changes what the documentation looks like. Each component is tested on its own, so the batch report carries a line per peptide: a vial with two molecules in it has no single molecular weight and no single CAS number. What you give up is control of the ratio and one clean identity line for the vial as a whole. Combining two reconstituted solutions yourself carries the same trade-off with less paperwork, because the certificates cover the two vials separately and nothing covers the mixture. Peptide blends vs single vials works through when each route makes sense.
Where semax was developed
Semax was developed in Russia as an analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment, and it is studied in neuropeptide research rather than sold as a medicine here. A research vial carries no drug approval in Canada, whatever status an approved product using the same sequence might hold in another country. That would be a separate, regulated product, not the material in a research vial.
The legal line is intended use. Research peptides are bought and sold in Canada as research chemicals for laboratory work, and what is not permitted is marketing or selling them as drugs for human consumption. Are research peptides legal in Canada? sets out that distinction in full. This page is general information, not legal advice.
Every semax vial from pepuro ships free, from our Calgary, Toronto and Vancouver distribution centers, the same business day your e-Transfer clears, with a QR code on the vial that opens its independent, third-party lab report.
For research use only. Not for human or animal consumption.
Frequently asked questions
Does semax need to be refrigerated?
+
Not while it is the dry powder. Semax ships lyophilized, so it is stable at room temperature in transit and for weeks on a cool, dark shelf. Once water is added, keep the vial in the fridge at 2 to 8°C and work through it rather than storing it.
Is semax legal in Canada?
+
Semax is bought and sold in Canada as a research chemical for laboratory use, not as a drug or a supplement. It is not approved by Health Canada, and the line that matters is intended use rather than the molecule. The site's guide to research peptide legality covers how that distinction works.
How do you reconstitute semax, and how much bacteriostatic water?
+
Run bacteriostatic water down the inside wall of the vial, let it reach the powder, then swirl. Never shake. There is no single correct volume: 1 mL into a 5 mg vial gives 5 mg/mL, 2 mL gives 2.5 mg/mL, and the peptide amount in the vial never changes.
Can semax and selank be mixed in one vial?
+
They are sold pre-blended. The selank + semax vial we stock holds 10 mg of each, combined before the vial is lyophilized, and each component is tested separately on the batch report. Mixing two reconstituted solutions yourself leaves the mixture covered by no report at all.
Where was semax developed, and where is it approved?
+
Semax was developed in Russia, as an analog of the ACTH(4-10) fragment. A research vial sold in Canada carries no drug approval, so the question of where it is approved does not apply to it. An approved medicine built on the same sequence would be a separate, regulated product.
