Why Windsor researchers should not order from Detroit
The border is a legal threshold, not a distance. A parcel crossing the Ambassador Bridge is processed like one arriving from anywhere. What that costs you and who absorbs the loss.
Published July 23, 2026
You can stand in Windsor and see Detroit. Essex County researchers ask us about US suppliers more than anyone outside Newfoundland. That proximity makes ordering from a US supplier feel local. It is not.
The border is a legal threshold, not a distance. A parcel crossing the Ambassador Bridge enters the same process as one arriving by air from Frankfurt.

What crossing costs
Examination and delay. Unpredictable in length and excluded from whatever transit estimate the shipper quoted. Research chemicals draw attention as a category.
You become the importer of record. Obligations sit with the receiver. Not the seller, not the courier.
Refusal or seizure. Material may not enter, and what follows is your problem.
No replacement. Most suppliers exclude liability for customs outcomes. Read their terms before assuming otherwise.
None of this requires the material to be problematic. It requires only the category and an officer's discretion.
The comparison
| US supplier to Windsor | Canadian supplier | |
|---|---|---|
| Crosses a border | Yes | No |
| Customs examination possible | Yes | No |
| Importer of record | You | N/A |
| Risk of refusal or seizure | Real | None |
| Replacement if it never arrives | Usually excluded | Ordinary shipping terms |
| Recourse if the material is wrong | Cross-border dispute | Canadian consumer protection |
The last row decides it more often than people expect. A dispute with a Canadian supplier runs under Canadian law. A dispute with a foreign seller over a seized parcel is not one you win.
Buying research peptides in Canada covers the domestic picture.
Check the vial before you use it
Every vial we ship carries its own QR code. Scanning it opens the third-party lab report for the exact batch that vial was filled from: HPLC purity, mass-spec identity, appearance, the testing lab and the date. Scan a sample at /track before you order anything.
Four things to confirm on arrival:
- The batch number on the label matches the report the code opens.
- The seal and stopper are intact.
- The lyophilized cake is dry and whole, not collapsed, shrunken or tacky.
- The colour matches what the report describes.
A vial that fails any of those is replaced. Contact support within 7 days of delivery.

Frequently asked questions
Can I order research peptides from a US supplier to Windsor?+
You can try. A parcel entering Canada is subject to CBSA examination, and research chemicals attract scrutiny. Import obligations rest with you as receiver, not the sender, and a held or seized parcel is generally not replaced by the shipper.
Does being close to the border make importing easier?+
No. Proximity has no bearing on customs treatment. A parcel crossing the Ambassador Bridge is processed identically to one arriving by air into Toronto.
What happens if CBSA holds my parcel?+
You may be contacted for information, the parcel may be delayed, or it may be refused entry. Costs fall on the importer. Most suppliers exclude liability for customs outcomes.
Do you ship to Leamington, Tecumseh and LaSalle?+
Yes, free, along with every address in Essex County.
